Make a day out of visiting us!

For those who have a long drive to get to us or small children who fail to appreciate the fun in furniture shopping, we have compiled a guide to help you make visiting Challicoms part of an enjoyable day trip to Clevedon!

Opening Times

Monday - Saturday, 9.30am - 5.00pm with late-night opening on Thursday until 7.00pm.

History

Clevedon is a quiet Victorian seaside resort with one of the finest surviving Victorian Piers in the country and the oldest, purpose built, continuously running cinema in the world (The Curzon). Clevedon is full of Victorian architecture and Hill Road, where we are situated, has many beautiful examples of this.

Shops

Hill Road has a lot to offer, as well as Challicoms, especially in terms of unique and local shops including wonderful gift shops where you’re bound to find something that grabs you, a hand made confectionary shop, florists, a beauty spa, stationers, bakers and various clothes shops and hairdressers. In addition to this are the high street shops situated in the town centre of Clevedon

Restaurants and Cafés

On Hill Road itself there is a good selection of eateries catering for different tastes. Closest to Challicoms is Junior Poon offering a wide variety of excellently prepared Chinese food, further along there is the Olive Garden who not only offer delicious food but also have their own delicatessen next door. Also situated on Hill Road is the Butterflies café, popular for a light lunch and just around the corner into Copse Road is the renowned Mon Plasir. Further a field in the direction of Clevedon Court is the award winning Food Hut café at Golden Acres nursery, awarded best café in the South West region!

Heritage

As an old, established town, Clevedon’s rich heritage is clearly visible.

The Clevedon Heritage Centre is situated at 4, The Beach, celebrating the areas past and present in a stimulating exhibition and is definitely worth a visit.

Clevedon Court is a wonderful National Trust site, once a manor house built by Sir John de Clevedon in 1320 with much of the original building still evident. Home to the Elton family since 1709 the house is now owned by the National Trust and contains collections of Elton Ware pottery and Nailsea glass (which Challicoms once stocked). The house also features a beautiful terraced garden, perfect for relaxing walks.

Entertainment for children

Obviously the beaches can provide hours of fun from paddling and skimming stones to scrambling and exploring over rocks. In the summer, the Salthouse Fields next to one of the beaches features a playground, a bouncy castle, a miniature train circuit, crazy golf and more, there is almost certain to be something that any child will enjoy!
